Letter: Donors’ generosity appreciated

By Joan Hammel, Vancouver
Published: September 17, 2016, 6:00am

On Sept. 11, Cheri Meyerhofer and I completed our Purses of Hope campaign for 2016. We want to sincerely thank all those people who contributed purses and items to fill those purses with everyday essentials.

We had hoped to receive around 100 purses. We were stunned when our total reached over 400, along with numerous bins full of items for those purses. We are overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity of the people in the Vancouver area.

These simple gifts of purses will be distributed by Second Step Housing and the YWCA to empower women in need of support. It will be wonderful for those receiving the purses to know that there are so many caring individuals out there wanting to help them.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
