Weather Eye: We needed the rain, but it’s too bad it had to fall on a weekend

Rain began about breakfast time Saturday around Clark County and continued most of the day. As of 3 p.m., Vancouver had more than 0.40 inch. Outlying areas had more than a half-inch, nearing 1 inch in the foothills.

We sure needed the rain, but too bad it had to fall on a weekend.

You noticed the cooler temperatures, I’m sure. Saturday’s high temperature actually was after midnight into the early morning hours. The temperature resided in the upper 50s the remainder of the day. It felt more like an October day.

So how does the rest of this week look? After a few scattered showers early, we’ll see skies clear and highs much warmer, around 70 degrees or so. Monday and Tuesday should be fair, and highs all week hover around the 70-degree mark. We run the risk of showers Wednesday toward the weekend.

Here is a little spoof I wrote a couple years ago: “You have heard of the Hunger Games, the book and the movie. ‘Let the games begin and may the odds be ever in your favor.’ Well, autumn officially arrives Sept. 22, and nature is preparing the setting for us. It always does, every year without fail, like it or not. And what will you be this year, a participant or spectator? Admission is free and there is plenty of viewing room. Only a stipend for participation, but the honor of achievement and accomplishment is of utmost award. Can’t you feel the calling? You can sit and watch the games or better yet, get out and participate. Let the games begin and may the leaves be ever in your neighbor’s yard.”
