Award-winning author to visit library Friday

BATTLE GROUND – Newbery Award-winning author Jack Gantos will discuss his writing experiences and sign books Friday at Battle Ground Community Library, 1207 S.E. Eighth Way.

The event starts at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Best known for the fictional characters Rotten Ralph and Joey Pigza, Gantos has written books for readers of all ages, from picture books and middle-grade fiction to novels for young adults and adults.

His works include “Hole in My Life,” a memoir that won the Michael L. Printz and Robert F. Sibert honors; “Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key,” a National Book Award Finalist; “Joey Pigza Loses Control,” a Newbery Honor book; and “Dead End in Norvelt,” the 2012 Newbery Award winner, and the Scott O’Dell Award Winner for Best Historic Fiction.

Gantos’ most recent book is “The Trouble in Me,” a fiery autobiographical novel capturing a pivotal week or two in the life of the author when he was 14, revealing the moment he began to slide off track and wound up on the path that would eventually put him in a federal penitentiary.
