Prep highlights: Gruher, Titans have a record day

Ben Gruher made eagle on the No. 9 hole at Camas Meadows to complete a 4-under-par 32 as the Union boys golf team beat Mountain View in record-setting fashion Thursday.

The Titans shot a school-record 139 in a match to beat the Thunder’s 180 total.

Union’s Reece Boyce had a 1-under 35, and Keith Lobis and Hayden Meeker both shot even-par 36 to round out the team score.

The Titans made 14 birdies along with Gruher’s eagle.

Mountain View was led by Mason’s White’s 38.

• Ellie Walker, Columbia River soccer, scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Mark Morris.

• Dolly Suarez, Evergreen soccer, had three assists in a win over Fort Vancouver.

• Nate Kutch, Seton Catholic golf, was medalist with 38 at Oaks-ridge Golf Course in Elma as Seton beat Elma 166-200.

• Logan Miller, Camas golf, shot a 1-under-par 35 in a win over Kelso.

• Julia Sprowls, King’s Way Christian volleyball, had nine kills and six aces in a win over Tenino.

• Makena Wilcox, Columbia River swimming, won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle at Kelso in state qualifying times.

• Sydney Boyle, Columbia River swimming, won the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke at Kelso in state qualifying times.

• Taryn Ries, Ridgefield soccer, scored three goals and assisted on two as the Spudders shut out Woodland 6-0.

• Hockinson defenders, soccer, did not allow a shot on goal in a 2-0 win over Battle Ground.

• Ryan Janiszewski, and Scott Anderson/Jalen Watts, Washougal tennis. Janiszewski at No. 2 singles, and Anderson/Watts at No. 1 doubles both came from a set down to win in third-set tiebreakers as the Panthers beat Mark Morris 4-2.

• Maddy Campbell, Ridgefield volleyball, recorded 23 digs, helping the Spudders to a thrilling, 3-1 win in Woodland. Ridgefield won its sets 25-23, 26-24, and 28-26.

• Jessica Lunceford, Hockinson volleyball, had 12 kills and 10 digs in a thrilling 5-set win over La Center. The Hawks lost the first two sets and overcame a 23-19 deficit in the fourth set.
