I was recently an inmate at the Clark County Jail for four weeks, awaiting trial for DUI.
It is essential that you be made aware of the dangerous overcrowding at the jail. The pod I was in was designed to house 12 inmates, but had 35. Not only does this create unnecessary animosity and conflict among inmates, staff (many of whom are already none too professional) are overworked and overwrought.
From a health perspective alone, there were two breakouts of lice that I know of in my time there.
Should a fire, earthquake or some other disaster occur, a human tragedy appears the likely outcome. I slept on the floor most of my time there, and in view of my physical disabilities, I imagine I would have been trampled in this scenario.
