Firefighters worked throughout the morning Monday to contain a 2-acre wildfire four miles northeast of Livingston Mountain.

A Washington State Department of Natural Resources helicopter and three fire engines fought the flames alongside three Department of Corrections inmate firefighting crews, according to DNR spokeswoman Janet Pearce.

The fire, first reported at 1:20 a.m. Monday, was burning slash in an area that was harvested three or four years ago, just off of logging road 1560 and directly north of the Jones Creek trailhead, Pearce said.

The entire fire had been trailed, meaning a line has been dug around the perimeter, by about 11 a.m. and was contained by early afternoon, Pearce said. Crews will monitor the area overnight.

The fire is under investigation by DNR to determine if the blaze was a result of natural causes or human activity.
