Letter: Time to regulate gun industry

By Herbert Bartling, VANCOUVER
Published: September 29, 2016, 6:00am

Marty McClendon takes the wrong approach in stating, “We have to balance safety and people’s rights” (“In our view: Habib for Lt. Governor,” Sept. 26, The Columbian).

Gun rights, McClendon’s so-called people’s rights, have been a diversionary tactic used by the NRA to protect the gun industry. It is time for the gun industry to be regulated just as the tobacco industry has been.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
