More rain headed our way, including on Easter Sunday

Monday we enjoyed those unavoidable April showers; however most were on the light side, at least at the official rain gauge for Vancouver. Today I expect many to wake up with frosty conditions, particularly in the outlying areas.
We may manage a completely dry day if the next batch of rain holds off until after midnight. At least the daylight hours will be dry. Yes, another weather system arrives late tonight through Wednesday, with more rain falling.
The rest of the week calls for showers Thursday with things drying out a bit Friday through Saturday. So, if you want to hide Easter eggs outside this weekend, do it Saturday! Another storm moves inland on Easter Sunday. The following week will continue our trend of unsettled cool and wet weather.
By now we should be seeing plenty of days in the 60 and even 70s. Not this year. It seems like the trees and shrubs are a week or two behind in their leafing-out process. And that nasty windstorm Friday robbed many of the flowering trees of their beautiful blossoms.
Nature has its way of balancing things out so I still hold some sense of a return to at least a few stretches of sunny and warm weather. Will we be complaining of the heat this summer? Will it be a bad year for wildfires? Million-dollar questions for sure.
Looking at the wildfire season, we sure have enough ground moisture, so vegetation will be abundant. It just depends how fast and the duration of a heat wave this summer. Longer-range climate models don’t suggest that at this point.
This is mid-April and we are still hearing about mud and landslides. The ground is so saturated. How are things doing in your garden? Had an opportunity to turn the soil or set out some seeds or plants? Maybe in nice loamy or sandy soils.
There is still some snow on Silver Star mountain to our east so the chances of frost remain. Be prepared to cover tender plants for a while yet.
