Prep highlights: Cox, Camas golfers win Chieftain Invitational

Papermakers place five golfers in top 10

Emma Cox shot a 78, leading Camas to the team title at the Chieftain Invitational golf tournament Thursday at Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield.

Cox posted a two-stroke edge over Prairie’s Delainey Patterson for medalist honors.

Camas outdistanced Union 328-368 for the team title. Skyview was third at 392, followed by Columbia River (432) and Prairie (439).

Camas had five players in the top 10 with Hailey Oster (third, 81), Abby Jiang (fifth, 83), Ashley Clark (sixth, 86) and Wenny Cai (ninth, 89) following Cox.

Other top-10 finishers included Karsyn Rushing of Union (fourth, 82), Julieta Rendon Mendoza of Union (seventh, 87), Kyla Thomas of Skyview (eighth, 88) and Maddy Starwalt of Skyview (10th, 92).

Stars of the day

• Chloe Blehm, Prairis softball, went 3-for-4 with a game-ending grand slam, and also pitched a four-hitter with three strikeouts in the Falcons’ 15-2 win over Evergreen.

• Donovan Wilson, Hudson’s Bay baseball, was 2 for 4 with a double as Hudson’s Bay beat Fort Vancouver 11-0.

• Alec Watkins, La Center boys soccer, scored three goals as the Wildcats beat Stevenson 5-0.

• Nick McKelvey, Mountain View baseball, was 2 for 5 with two doubles, three runs and RBI as the Thunder earned their first 3A Greater St. Helens League win by beating Kelso 10-4.

• Kennedy Ferguson, Camas softball, struck out 14 Union hitters in the Papermakers’ 3-0 victory to move to 5-1 in 4A GSHL play.

• Serena Fogg, Mountain View softball, went 4-for-4 with a home run and scored a pair of runs in the Thunder’s 19-6 win over Hudson’s Bay.

• Amber Griffith, Hockinson softball, went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and two RBI as Hockinson opened 2A Greater St. Helens League play with an 11-3 win over Mark Morris.
