WOODLAND — Woodland city councilors voted to hire Jeff Cavender as chief of the Woodland Police Department at Monday’s meeting. The appointment is contingent on Cavender passing a background check, polygraph test and psych exam, which are scheduled to be completed by April 26, according to City Administrator Pete Boyce.
If Cavender passes all those tests, he will start in Woodland on May 8.
Cavender has served as chief of the Momence Police Department in Momence, Ill., since 2013. Prior to taking over the Momence department, he worked as chief for the Village of Grant Park in Grant Park, Ill., and served for nearly 24 years with the Village of Orland Park Police Department in Orland Park, Ill., according to the Momence Police Department’s website.
With Woodland, Cavender would make $98,855 a year, the same as the previous chief, according to the agreement voted on by city councilors. He would take over for Garry Lucas, the interim police chief, who was hired after Phil Crochet retired last year.
