PORTLAND – A West Linn police officer shot and killed a man after answering a report about a suicidal person Friday night, police said.

Officers were sent to the 2100 block of Long Street at 10:17 p.m. and “confronted a male armed with a firearm,” who was shot and died at the scene, according to a news release.

The name of the man shot was not released.

Following department policy, the officers have been placed on administrative leave and the Clackamas County Major Crimes Team is investigating the case.
