OLYMPIA – A Washington state department has rejected the application for a proposed psychiatric hospital in Thurston County.

The state Department of Health denied Providence St. Peter Hospital and BHC Fairfax Hospital’s joint application. They wanted to open an 85-bed psychiatric hospital. The state listed financial feasibility, structure and process of care and cost containment as reasons for the denial.

The decision cannot be appealed, but hospital officials said they are evaluating legal options.
