Portland — Searchers scoured the Willamette River and areas nearby Saturday for a 5-year-old boy who disappeared in Salem on Friday evening, but without result. They planned to resume the search at 7 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities said Allen “Chaz” Pearson was last seen at the river’s edge at Wallace Marine Park. Saturday’s search was a multiagency effort, with would-be rescuers in helicopters, on foot and on the water, according to Sgt. Jason Ball of the Polk County Sherriff’s Office.

Authorities said the boy had been playing with other children near a footbridge over the Willamette. They describe Chaz as 4-feet tall, 50 pounds, with dark hair. He was wearing green and camo swimming shorts.
