Letter: Washington needs bottle bill

By Angela Dechand, VANCOUVER
Published: August 9, 2017, 6:00am

Each day, our environment is becoming increasingly compromised. There are many ways to attack this issue but one method I think we as Washingtonians should consider is forming a bottle bill for the state of Washington.

Already, Oregon and California have bills that provide a monetary incentive for recycling. By creating a similar bill in Washington, I have hopes that we can decrease the amount of plastic waste in Washington.

As Oregon is increasing the monetary reward for recycling in order to find the optimal incentive that will trigger the most participation, we should tag along to discover the best value for Washingtonians. Please consider contacting your local representatives and push to get this bill created and passed.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
