SPOKANE — A Spokane Police officer is facing criminal charges for allegedly misleading investigators after a kidnapping victim was brought by his daughter to his home.

KREM-TV reported Tuesday that charges of rendering criminal assistance, false swearing and tampering with physical evidence were filed against Spokane Police Officer John Arredondo in the May incident.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office announced the charges Tuesday.

Arredondo’s daughter Ashley Arredondo was charged in May with kidnapping and stabbing a woman she claimed owed her money. Police say Ashley Arredondo, a male suspect and the victim then went to the officer’s home.

Police said in May that Officer Arredondo took the victim to the hospital in his patrol car.

Police say Arredondo has been on paid leave since May 18 and will be placed on unpaid leave while the criminal case moves forward.
