North Garrison Heights — The National Women’s Coalition Against Violence and Exploitation hosted a counting day Aug. 13 for the nonprofit’s Gift of Lift program, in which people donate bras that are then distributed to numerous local nonprofits providing services in Washington and Oregon, and nationally and internationally.

The bras go to organizations that help women and girls who are survivors of domestic violence and sex trafficking, low income, homeless and/or incarcerated. Volunteers counted 2,315 bras, including 258 brand new ones.

In addition, three local school districts in Clark County provided low income/homeless girls with the Gift of Lift bras. Since the program began in 2014, more than 15,000 bras have been collected and distributed to thousands of women and girls.
