Letter: Check out the local library

By Dave Cannard, VANCOUVER

In the Aug. 18 story about credit card debt, “Young and overspent?,” the comment about not buying books to save money misses one great resource we have in this community. Instead of, or in addition to, “read what’s on my shelf” and “trade with friends,” how about patronize my local library?

Not to knock our local booksellers, but the Fort Vancouver Regional Library system has enough books, current or not so, to keep anyone in paper, video, audio and electronic reading material for years without ever buying another book. Being able to look up titles online and hold for delivery at your local branch (or mail to you if unable to visit), you never have an excuse for being without a book to read, at zero cost to your personal budget.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
