Woodland — At 11:40 a.m. Aug. 19, Krystal Fleck was injured while riding her motorcycle when a large piece of wood fell off a flatbed trailer onto state Highway 503 about 2 miles north of Battle Ground. Fleck was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center. In an email, Fleck wanted to thank a man, Charlie Davis, who stopped to help her that afternoon. “There was a man, a stranger, that knelt on the ground and held my hand,” she wrote. “I was screaming in pain and he just continued to hold my hand, never once letting go. He finally left me when the firefighters showed up and not a second before.” He later called the hospital to check on her. Fleck said she exchanged a few messages with Davis since then, and plans on keeping him updated on her recovery.
