Letter: Reject environmental risk

By Dale McLain, VANCOUVER

I attended the Vancouver oil terminal EFSEC hearing Aug. 22 for the required stormwater discharge permit. I found the idea to be ludicrous at a time when federal and state governments are spending millions of dollars to mitigate water quality in an effort to regain salmon populations in the Columbia River. Any addition of pollution (Vancouver Energy’s permit states the pollutants they will be discharging) to the river is a step in the wrong direction. Further, a major oil spill into the river could wipe out salmon populations for decades, if not permanently.
