Letter: Herrera Beutler lacks leadership

I am disappointed that Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler voted for the tax reform bill. I am concerned that if this bill becomes law, it will move us that much closer to the bankruptcy of our nation. Although I agree with lower corporate tax rates, I fear we are implementing lower rates without removing existing corporate loopholes and preferences, and that the new tax plan will not result in a better or more fair system.

I am especially troubled that the “carried interest” provision, which is such an egregious tax break for the wealthy, is still in both the Senate and House versions. Even President Trump said during his campaign that this should go away. It is an example of how the super rich are plundering our economy.

We live in challenging times. I wish that Herrera Beutler would show some leadership.
