CAMAS — The Camas Police Department is starting a campaign to encourage residents to comply with Washington state vehicle registration laws.

The emphasis will be conducted in three phases: identification, attempt to gain voluntary compliance and enforcement. The department has started the identification phase, during which there will be increased patrols in neighborhoods and around school zones. Officers will be specifically looking for vehicles with out-of-state license plates and entering those vehicles into a database.

Vancouver and Battle Ground have made efforts in recent months to get Clark County residents to register their cars in Washington. New residents to the state have 30 days from the time of their arrival to register their vehicle properly. Failure to do so is an infraction subject to a fine of $1,122.
