BREMERTON — Authorities have identified two officers who fatally shot a man after the man allegedly opened fire and wounded the officers with a pair of handguns.

The Kitsap Sun reports the Bremerton Police Department says Officers Allan McComas and Kent Mayfield returned fire Sunday and killed the man, whose identity has not been released.

The names of McComas and Mayfield were released Monday morning.

Bremerton police say Mayfield was shot twice in the abdomen and was taken to Harrison Medical Center for surgery. He is recovering in the hospital.

Mayfield’s family released a statement Monday, saying the officer is expected to make a full recovery.

Authorities say McComas was hit in the waist and was released from the hospital Sunday.

Both officers have been placed on administrative assignment pending the investigation.
