Turnovers plagued the Storm in its opening game of the annual Nike Interstate Shootout on Wednesday morning, hosted by Lake Oswego High School.

But it wasn’t until the fourth quarter when they made a difference for a nonleague loss against the Oregon 5A Falcons to drop to 2-6 overall.

At one point, Skyview led 27-21.

“And then,” Storm first-year coach Brett Johnson said, “we started having turnovers. … When we shut down the turnovers, we’ll be OK.”

That helped spark La Salle’s comeback, despite 12 points apiece from Kazee Parks and Emily Norton. Nicole Christensen also had eight rebounds, including six offensive. Remington Riley had seven rebounds in addition to her four points.

Despite committing 16 turnovers, Johnson praised Skyview’s defensive efforts on La Salle’s Taycee Wedin, who finished with 11 points. Wedin averaged better than 20 points a game entering Wednesday.

Skyview continues the tournament at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
