Felida — Three Skyview High School students were honored by U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, for an app they built as part of the 2017 Congressional App Challenge. Kristen Stilin, Amelia Madarang, and Nathaniel Chen finished first in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District for their app, Duck and Cover. The disaster preparedness app’s tagline is “Don’t be scared, be prepared.” The app can help people come up with plans before, during and after disasters. The app also allows users to input items like maps, meeting places and contacts. More than 4,100 students participated in the 14-week regional competitions, submitting more than 1,270 original student-created apps.
