Letter: A corpulent corpocracy

Corpocracy! That’s the America we live in today. (Look it up; it’s a real word.) The congressional grifters have taken their bribes and now they have rewarded their corporate masters with a shameless giveaway in the new “tax reform act.” They have required the corporations to do nothing except take this windfall and hope that some of it will trickle down to the rest of us for a few years. That would be the first time ever. Meanwhile, Congress can’t seem to find money to restore the Children’s Health Insurance Program and they have effectively killed the Affordable Care Act (according to President Trump himself). Despite what Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler says, the ink won’t be dry on this act before the deficit hawks will begin to complain that we need to cut back on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Republicans were supposed to be the fiscally responsible party, but they have shown their true colors again.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
