Oregon Zoo admission free Sunday

The Oregon Zoo invites the community to explore the zoo for free Sunday.

The zoo’s admission gates will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the grounds open until 5 p.m. The zoo’s animals are more likely to be active during the wintertime, thanks to the cooler weather, according to a press release.

Nora, the zoo’s new young polar bear, is typically most active before 11 a.m.

Those planning a trip to the zoo are encouraged to take MAX light rail to avoid parking troubles in Washington Park. Visitors can check parking availability on the park’s website, http://explorewashingtonpark.org. For more information from the zoo, www.oregonzoo.org or call 503-226-1561.

The zoo is at 4001 S.W. Canyon Road, Portland, just off Highway 26 west of downtown.
