Boys basketball: Spanaway Lake 62, Fort Vancouver 54

Jameel Morton scored 17 points but the Trappers fell short in the first round of the bi-district tournament in Olympia.

The No. 3 seed from the 3A GSHL, Fort (13-7) faces a loser-out game against Lakes on Friday in Olympia.

Spanaway Lake (16-6) finished No. 2 in the Pierce County League. The Senitinels took charge by outscoring Fort 20-7 in the third quarter to take a 45-39 lead.

“The kids battled tonight,” Fort coach James Ensley said. “But (Spanaway Lake) buckled down on defense in the second half.”

Fort gave up 13 offensive rebounds.

“That turned what should have been one-shot possessions into three-shot possessions,” Ensley said. “That didn’t help our cause.”

James Husband added 13 points, including threee 3-pointers, and six rebounds for the Trappers.
