1. Jazzy jive
Take your valentine dancing this weekend and support the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. The Sweetheart Hangar Dance will be a World War II-era, USO-style dance, with vintage dress and uniforms encouraged. For those looking to jitterbug, music will be provided by the Vanport Jazz Band, along with hors d’oeuvres and a no-host bar. There will be a raffle items and vintage valentines for sale, with proceeds benefiting education and interpretive programs at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. 2. Lantern viewing
The Vancouver Chinese Association will host a Chinese New Year Celebration Gala to celebrate the Year of the Rooster with food, beverages and cultural performances. Students in the Mandarin immersion programs at Franklin Elementary School and Jason Lee Middle School will celebrate Chinese New Year with a Lantern Festival, open to all. The lanterns created by students will include hundreds of riddles hanging between the lit lanterns for visitors to decipher for prizes, along with light refreshments and music by Aram Arslanian. 3. Growing seeds
The annual Great Clark County Seed Swap will be 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 11 at the La Center Grange, 328 W. Fifth St., La Center. Local gardeners will bring favorite non-hybrid plants and seeds to share and swap with neighbors. There will be classes on tree-grafting and growing heirloom tomatoes.
