I was dismayed to see legislation brought forward to eliminate daylight savings time. Many of us wish the state would just leave it in place year-round instead of reverting to standard time. As an avid gardener, I spend as much time outside as possible and I always hate to see daylight saving time revert to standard time each fall. I can’t wait to see it return every spring. I know I’m not alone in feeling this way.
For many people, there is also the issue of increased depression during the short, dark days of fall and winter. Why make that period of the year even longer?
Senate Bill 5329 would also keep Washington out of step with most of the rest of the nation, which still follows daylight saving time.
Reasons for changing to standard time don’t make sense. If daylight saving time is so dangerous to our health, then none of us should ever travel out of our own Pacific time zone for fear of all the negative impact stated as being the reasons for abolishing it.
It’s hard to believe one hour could make so much difference that we need a bill to eliminate daylight saving. Don’t legislators have better things to do with their valuable time than debate this issue?
