Letter: Help with mental health care

By Carol Sage-Nellis, CAMAS
Published: February 13, 2017, 6:00am

In response to Don Greenwood’s Jan. 12 letter, “Clark County needs new jail,” he is misinformed when he states we need a new jail for the mentally ill. The mentally ill come out of jail worse than when they went in.

We need a safe new mental facility in Clark County. We have a chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) that can use all the help it can get. Its purpose is to educate and advocate for the mentally ill. At the present, NAMI is working toward getting a mental facility built in Clark County. This facility would address many needs for the mentally ill that are not being addressed now.

NAMI headquarters is at 5411 E. Mill Plain Blvd., Suite A, Vancouver, and the phone number is 360-695-2823. If you are interested in furthering their cause, I guarantee any help you give will be appreciated immeasurably.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
