Because of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, I no longer have to worry about my adult children not having health insurance. I no longer have to worry that a medical expense will saddle them with a debt that will hurt their credit and follow them the rest of their lives.
I know that the ACA is not perfect. I, as much as anyone, want to see the problems fixed. But this is personal. Don’t threaten to repeal unless you can replace.
I want affordable health insurance for my adult children, not just access, because “access” without affordability is as bad as no insurance at all. I want quality insurance like we have in Washington, and I don’t want it undermined by “buying across state lines” unless you can ensure that the quality of our insurance will be maintained (though I am worried that avoiding those quality markers may be the point). I want insurance that is subject to the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner; it’s done an excellent job holding the insurance companies to account when they want to raise rates.
I want a health plan that does something about drug prices. The price people are being charged for their prescription drugs is a national disgrace.
I am calling on Rep. Jaime Herrera Buetler, R-Camas, to stand up for me and be part of a workable solution that provides coverage for everyone.
