Letter: Ugly Americans are embarrassment

By Marc Chamberlin, WASHOUGAL
Published: February 18, 2017, 6:00am

To all Muslims, Mexicans, and the rest of the world, I and many of my fellow Americans are disgusted by the rise of uglyism in our country. I heard whispers, when traveling abroad, about the ugly American, but I thought they were a small minority of miscreants who didn’t follow the Golden Rule or reflect the ideals and teachings that Americans valued immigrants and welcomed the richness and diversity of other cultures. Apparently I was wrong.

We’re ashamed that so many abandoned their own humanity and elected a 70-year-old immature adolescent as our leader. He reflects their desire to enslave a woman’s body with unwanted babies, to grope them for amusement, and brag about it. They’re bigots who foster hatred and intolerance towards cultural differences, be it religion, race, sexual orientation, etc., and build walls and barriers against them. They believe might and money make right.

We are horrified that many Americans have forgotten the horrors of segregation and the atrocities brought about by leaders who championed such values. We will resist and protest against these false humans, their claims of being Christians, their denial of science and intellectualism, their lack of empathy.

I deeply apologize for the rise of the ugly Americans.
