WOODBURN, Ore. — Woodburn authorities say a man armed with a machete slashed three people at an apartment complex after initially swinging the weapon at a Walmart greeter.

City spokesman Jason Horton says police officers responded to Walmart late Monday when alerted that a man was shattering glass cabinets and taking ammunition. Witnesses said the man ran through the store with a machete before threatening to kill a greeter.

Officers found the suspect, 29-year-old Alan Lee Brock, parked outside but he got away. Police were soon called to an apartment complex, where they say the suspect tried to rob a woman for her car keys before breaking down an apartment door and slashing three men.

Horton says officers found Brock on a stairwell and he surrendered. He was booked into jail on charges of attempted murder.

The slashing victims did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
