Jason Nortz has joined the city of Vancouver’s Community and Economic Development Department as its new development review division manager. In his new role he will oversee building permits, land-use review, engineering permits and code compliance. Nortz most recently served as director in the development services department for the city of Ashville, N.C. with more than 25 years’ experience in the field.

Laura Hewes and April Cortez have opened Amazing Cakes, Cupcakes & Unique Treats, a new bakery at 4903 N.E. St. Johns Road, Vancouver. The bakery will feature a rotation of treats as well as sculpted wedding, birthday and event cakes and gourmet cupcakes. They also offer catering both sweet and savory items. Operating hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and their phone number is 360-334-6865.
