Letter: Options for an aging population

By Helen Elder, WASHOUGAL

I read with interest your June 27 editorial “In Our View — Issue of Aging Needs Focus.” We have politicians who vote to defund Meals on Wheels. I don’t see where government will help much. Following are two nonprofit groups that are doing wonderful work in Clark County:

Villages Clark County (www.VillagesClarkCounty.org) is a new nonprofit startup that will help seniors stay in their homes for as long as they can, as inexpensively and safely as possible. They will accomplish this by using trained and vetted volunteers to do the types of things you might ask an adult child to do.

Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practitioners of the Pacific NW is a nonprofit group of doctors, nurses and therapists who teach free classes to help seniors stay in their homes — classes like maintaining balance, improving memory, and alternatives for pain relief. These free classes will start this fall in local libraries.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
