Letter: Property taxes burden seniors

By Arnie Zweig, VANCOUVER

As a senior, I have read with great interest Clark County’s Aging Readiness Plan. I commend the county for trying to look ahead.

There is one major area I do not see being addressed. That is the burden property taxes put upon us seniors. Our homes’ assessments have gone up tremendously the past two years, as have our taxes. The only thing not going up is our Social Security.

To keep seniors in our homes, significant property-tax relief is a must. I have sent emails, on more than one occasion, to all of our Clark County and state representatives, outlining the problem and offering solutions. Not one has bothered to respond, nor even acknowledge receipt of my emails. The best way for us to maintain our independence and not be a burden to others is for us to be in our own homes. Property taxes are impeding that ability.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
