Podcast delves into state budget, city decision on animals

By Dameon Pesanti, Columbian staff writer
Published: July 27, 2017, 6:01am

In this week’s Clark Talks, Dameon Pesanti talks with Jake Thomas, The Columbian’s politics reporter, about the Washington Legislature’s failure to pass a state capital budget and what that means for Clark County. They also dig into the reason given for the impasse — the state Supreme Court’s Hirst decision, which concerns water rights.

Next, Pesanti talks with Columbian reporter intern Will Campbell about the city of Vancouver’s efforts to inhibit animal hoarding, the city’s waffling on a local bar’s outdoor seating area and the prospect of the Portland Timbers bringing a version of soccer called futsal to town.

The show ends with a roundup of local events this weekend and beyond with community events maven Ashley Swanson.

You can find the show on Soundcloud, or subscribe for free weekly downloads on iTunes or Stitcher. Contact Pesanti and Gillespie about the podcast at podcast@columbian.com.

New episodes are typically released biweekly, but follow The Columbian for news about special episodes and features as they’re released.
