Letter: Hamas to blame for Gaza strife

By Ann Bardacke, Vancouver
Published: July 28, 2017, 6:00am

The people of Gaza are indeed suffering from lack of electricity, but the problem does not stem from Israel’s efforts to keep itself safe from Hamas, a political group that controls Gaza and is dedicated to Israel’s the destruction of Israel.

The fault lies with Hamas leadership, which diverts funds and materials meant to alleviate the suffering of Gaza civilians to its military, meant to cause death to Israeli civilians. Israel transfers tons of material into Gaza every week.

Diane Adkin’s (Our Readers’ Views, July 26) characterization of the Israel Anti-Boycott Act is ludicrous. She has the right to boycott Israeli products — and I hope she considers giving up her cellphone, which is reliant on technology pioneered in Israel.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
