A registered sex offender who possessed more than 200 images of child pornography on his computer was sentenced Friday to 5 1/4 years in prison.

Fred J. Beeman, 51, of Vancouver pleaded guilty last month in Clark County Superior Court to first-degree viewing depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Beeman was convicted in January 2012 of two counts of child molestation and one count of possessing child pornography. The victims were 4 and 7. He also was convicted in 2001 of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Superior Court.

Beeman, who was sentenced to prison, was granted early release in February 2016, the affidavit states.

An officer with the Department of Corrections found handwritten notes with web addresses to child pornography sites and other violations of Beeman’s probation during a routine search of his residence, court records said.

Officers seized his computer and recovered about 200 child sex abuse images, the court document states. They also found evidence that he had visited numerous sites promoting child sex abuse of preschool and elementary school-aged children, according to the affidavit.

“I’m truly sorry, your honor. I really am a good person. I just made some bad decisions,” Beeman said Friday. He said that he feels sick about what he’s done.

Judge Gregory Gonzales followed the attorneys’ previously agreed upon sentence of 63 months in prison and 36 months of community custody. He was given credit for 101 days in custody.
