Letter: Robust port has plenty of options

By Lois Bancroft, White Salmon
Published: July 29, 2017, 6:00am

What kinds of economic development would I support at the port?

I would support projects that provide the most benefit, for the most people, for the longest time, with the least possible harm. There could be a long list of projects that would meet that standard: import and export of electric cars, Tesla batteries, quinoa, solar panels, wind turbine components and other 21st century jobs, and tourism.

The port is not limited to moving bulk cargo. It can support many other types of economic development. An oil terminal does not meet my criteria. Neither do other fossil fuel infrastructure projects.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
