Letter: Herrera Beutler shows hypocrisy

According to Washington, D.C., roll call, published July 24 in The Columbian, it was a busy week for Rep. Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground. She voted yes on H.R. 806 to delay implementation of clean air standards to curb unhealthy pollution. She voted against an amendment that would end the delay if the EPA certified negative impacts of air pollution on children, seniors, pregnant women or outdoor workers. Additionally, she supported H.R. 2883, a bill that will help increase the use of volatile and dirty tar sands crude oil.

Apparently our congresswoman believes allowing industry to spew pollutants into our environment is good for America; she points to job creation as a rationale.

Yet, during “Made in America” week, she voted no on a motion to require American-made steel and iron to be used to build pipelines required under H.R. 2883. It seems she wants those jobs to be done somewhere other than the U.S.A.

How does one spell hypocrisy? HERRERA BEUTLER.
