A 16-year-old boy accused of committing an armed robbery outside a Five Corners convenience store Saturday was released from a juvenile facility about three months ago, court records show.

Khayri N. Lucas of Vancouver appeared Monday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and possession of a stolen firearm. His case is being heard in adult court based on the nature of the allegations and his age.

Police and prosecutors said Lucas approached a group of people in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven at 9411 N.E. 76th St., and demanded cigarettes at about 2:20 a.m. He then pulled a black firearm from his waistband and pointed it in the faces of two men. A third man complied with the boy’s demands and gave him three cigarettes, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Superior Court.

The victims immediately called 911, and they were able to provide dispatchers with a description of the suspect.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded to the area and found four people walking south of the store, including one who matched the suspect’s description. The victims and witnesses identified Lucas as the assailant, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies located a loaded 9 mm handgun in the bushes near where police spotted Lucas. The firearm was later determined to be stolen, according to the sheriff’s office.

Court records state that Lucas was released from a juvenile facility in March and is on juvenile parole. He has a 2015 conviction for third-degree assault and 2014 conviction for taking a motor vehicle.

During his court appearance, Judge John Fairgrieve set Lucas’ bail at $150,000. He will be arraigned June 16.
