BEND, Ore. (AP) — Authorities are investigating whether a mother played a role in the 2016 suicide of her daughter in an Oregon motel room.
Bend police Officer Josiah Pacheco said in a search warrant affidavit that Linda Jonsson told him on Aug. 25 — the day of the suicide — that she had seen her daughter, Sonja Mae Jonsson, swallow a large amount of prescription medication and dictate a suicide note.
Pacheco also said Jonsson told police she gave her daughter water to swallow the tablets and four prescription pain pills that had been prescribed to the mother, The Bulletin reported Monday.
No charges have been filed against Linda Jonsson.
Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel declined The Bulletin’s request for any information related to the case pending the completion of his investigation.
Linda Jonsson has disputed the police statements. She maintains she was not in the motel room when her daughter took the pills and arrived after her daughter had swallowed the drugs, the newspaper said.
