Local bands honored at Junior Rose Parade

PORTLAND — Pleasant Valley Middle School’s marching band won top honors Wednesday at the Junior Rose Parade, capturing the Band Sweepstakes Award.

Chief Umtuch Middle School was also honored, winning second place in the open class for marching bands with more than 100 members.

The groups were taking part in the Portland Rose Festival’s annual parade down Sandy Boulevard, featuring more than 30 middle school bands and thousands of decorated kids, pets and families.
