Letter: Congress lets power wane

By James S. Roberts, VANCOUVER

On Wednesday, when two of our “intelligence directors” appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee and refused to answer the questions put to them by the members for no legal reason, it demonstrated yet again why this country is no longer run by Congress. By law these persons are obligated to accountability to this committee.

Yet there is no indication that the Senate will do anything to stop the abuse of their powers.

Long gone are the days when Congress declared war. When big money was not the governing entity. Gone are the days when we could go to Canada and Mexico with no need for a passport or government-approved driver’s license. Long gone are the days when our friends and allies could depend on us.

Long gone are the days when America was the shining example of freedom and democracy.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
