Roland Minder, whose amassed 553 wins and five state titles coaching Camas High School’s boys and girls soccer programs, has resigned from the boys program.

Camas athletic director Rory Oster confirmed Minder’s resignation Monday. He said it was known all season 2017 would be Minder’s last coaching both programs.

“He felt like he needed to slow down from too many commitments,” Oster said.

Oster added he plans to make a hiring later this week, but Minder will continued to be involved on a smaller scale, whether it’s a mentor role or part-time coach, he said.

“He has an immense amount of knowledge,” Oster said. “We’ll figure out how to keep him a part of that program.”

Camas became Minder’s first head-coaching opportunity when he took over the struggling boys program in 1995 that never produced a winning season prior to his arrival.

Under Minder, the Papermakers turned the corner in 1998 with an 11-win season, and since ’99, have made 19 consecutive state playoff appearances with state titles in 2006, ’08 and ’11. They advanced to the 4A state quarterfinals this past season.

Minder began coaching the Camas’ girls in 2004, and the results were similar — 10 straight playoff appearances with state titles in ’05 and last fall. The Papermakers went undefeated in 2016 on their way to the Class 4A state title, and Minder was named the national coach of the year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
