Fort Vancouver’s July 4 fireworks show also means street closures Tuesday in and around Vancouver’s historic core.

Some streets will be temporarily closed, and others around the event site will be closed or under traffic control all day, the Fort Vancouver National Trust announced Thursday.

People are encouraged to take public transportation.

The 10 p.m. fireworks display — the highlight of what’s officially called Independence Day at Fort Vancouver presented by Bank of America — is free this year.

Some traffic restrictions will go into effect over the weekend. Fort Vancouver Way from Mill Plain to Fourth Plain boulevards, including the median strip, will be a no-parking/tow-away zone from Sunday through Tuesday.

After the fireworks, all traffic leaving the area will travel north on Fort Vancouver Way until midnight.

Drivers on state Highway 14 will have access to the Columbia River waterfront trail, parks and restaurants until 9 p.m., an hour before the fireworks. Access will reopen immediately following the fireworks.
