I read the article “Trump proposes slashing EPA budget.” While there is a need to cut funding at many agencies to help reduce our deficit, is a “roughly 25 percent cut and about 300 jobs and 19 percent of the staff” a wise choice?
The article goes on to say, “Also targeted for steep cutbacks are regional projects that would benefit degraded areas such as Chesapeake Bay, Puget Sound and the Gulf of Mexico.” Also being cut is the budget for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration by 17 percent, which studies “changes in climate, weather, oceans and coasts.”
One needs to look at the discoveries and many grants that have been given to private firms to develop new technologies and new methods of cleanup that have created new jobs, helped with making our water and air cleaner, and done much more than the funds allocated.
It is likely these cuts will be passed and put into law.
The two-year midterm elections will be our first chance to impact changes in these policies.
