SEATTLE – A 17-year-old girl was killed Friday when a tree fell on her while she walked in the woods in a northern Seattle suburb.

The Seattle Times reports that the girl was walking with other teens at Meadowdale Beach Park in Edmonds on Friday afternoon when the tree fell.

Snohomish County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve McDonald called the incident a tragic accident and said the tree happened to fall and crushed her. He said some of the other teens tried to move the tree, but it was too large.

The girl was dead when emergency responders arrived. McDonald said no one else was hurt.

No further information was immediately available.
