Letter: Put homeless to work where needed

While reading The Columbian this morning, I learned that the farmers are concerned that, if the Trump administration does away with all the illegal immigrants, their crops will suffer for lack of harvesters.

The same newspaper has an article about the city of Vancouver expecting to spend about $6 million to house their homeless population. Many of these people say they are homeless because they can’t find jobs.

Since many big growers furnish housing for their workers, the solution seems simple to me. All the city has to do is provide bus fare to the homeless to get them to the growers’ locations and they can earn their own way. It looks like a win-win situation for all.

By the way, I’m not being hypocritical as I picked a lot of produce in my younger days. It’s an honest living.
